Synopsis
Ladder to Nowhere is a powerful and moving urban drama set in 1990s Manchester. It follows the story of Meli, a marginalised teenage girl trying to survive in a dysfunctional family and an unforgiving environment.
Based on a true story, this is a unique, forensically accurate account of the barriers that continue to face those who live in poverty and neglect in Britain’s cities. And in the character of Meli, endlessly brave and resourceful, it gives us a truly memorable protagonist for our times.
Our story has already formed the basis of a BBC Radio documentary series, which won the Gold Award for best factual programme at the 2020 Arias awards.
